Blue Hill Broadband Report
The locally developed and Updated (March 2021) Blue Hill Broadband Report was created to more accurately identify wired Internet access in Blue Hill and provide basic facts about the Internet and how they relate to the Town's wired infrastructure at the time. The document clarifies what we had & did not have at the time, and why. It also captured some key shortfalls in the town's DSL capacity, and why it would not be corrected.
Changes have occurred in how providers look at legacy systems.
1. CCI is focusing on Fiber with their Fidium Fiber brand. DSL will NOT be upgraded!
2. Spectrum will only provide Fiber in areas without Coaxial services today - keeping the copper (Coax) medium in places like Blue Hill, Stonington, Deer Isle, Surry and Castine.
We were directly affected and through proactive communications through the PUB, recognized as an area to include in the ConnectMaine/CCI application to NTIA. The 25 February 2022 NTIA Award was the reward.
